Middle Atlantic Safe Sport Training
In an effort to ensure members of Middle Atlantic Swimming are fully educated and fully informed in the protection, safety, and well-being of all our athletes, the Middle Atlantic Safe Sport committee will be hosting a Stewards of Children training, in partnership with Darkness to Light. The training will be held on Saturday, September 22, 10-1, at the Upper Dublin Township Building (801 Loch Alsh Ave, Fort Washington, PA).
Darkness to Light is an organization “empowering adults to prevent child sexual abuse.” Per the Darkness to Light website, the Stewards of Children training: Stewards of Children® uses real people and real stories to show you how to protect children. The framework of the training is built off the foundation of The 5 Steps to Protecting Children™.
This is a further educational opportunity we are making available to our coaches, above and beyond our Athlete Protection Training course. Within this training, we will be given a broader view combating sexual abuse and working with victims and survivors. Additionally, at the end of the training, we will directly relate what we’ve learned to Middle Atlantic Swimming and what we can and should do as a community for our athletes and participants. We feel strongly we must do more to education our coaches, officials, and members of Middle Atlantic Swimming. This is the first step towards ensuring we are doing all we can for the safety and protection of our athletes and I encourage as many of you to attend as possible.
