USA Swimming Elects Its New Board of Directors – Congrats to Dr Cecil Gordon
USA Swimming, the national governing body for the sport of swimming in the United States, announced the newly elected members of its restructured Board of Directors. The organization’s more than 600 House of Delegates members elected six At-Large Directors, at the yearly convention in Jacksonville, Fla. Our very own Dr Cecil Gordon of Greenville, Delaware was elected to a 4 year term. A field of over 50 applicants was vetted and narrowed to a slate of 15 by the nominating committee, who was charged with evaluating the nominees qualifications and insuring that certain geographic and position-specific requirements were met (i.e., two members of the Board must be coaches, each of the four geographic zones must be represented, two members must be semi-independent, etc.) The USA Swimming House of Delegates elected six of the fifteen nominees as part of the new strategically-focused Board.
Dr. Gordon has been a member of the Middle Atlantic and USA Swimming community for many years. He has been a part of four USA Swimming national committees – a member of International Relations Committee and the Rules and Regulations Committee and the chair of both the Diversity & Inclusion and the Safe Sport Committees. He has served on a variety of Boards in the medical field and recently agreed to serve on the USA Swimming Foundation Board. He has officiated at the local level and has worked as an official at each of the last three Olympic Trials meets in Omaha. He was selected as the starter for the 2015 World Championships in Russia. For those of you who watched swimming at the 2016 Rio Games, the voice saying “Take your mark” at the start of each of the men’s events was his. Cecil is also a lifelong New York Yankees Fan!!
